The SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT participation in the World Water Forum

Demographic growth, expanding urbanization, industrial development or even global warming have fundamentally changed the issues surrounding water, leading to new challenges for the actors in this sector. For more than 10 years, SUEZ ENVIRONMENT has been engaged in dialogue with the stakeholders of water in France and in the countries in which it operates. The company has innovated and adapted itself to invent new models and solutions in order to meet the local needs of water users and the requirements of public authorities, whilst protecting water resources. The 6th World Water Forum, which took place from March 12 to 17, in Marseille, is part of the solutions and commitments.

The 6th World Water Forum

A major event for the international water community, the Forum is organised every 3 years by the World Water Council and the host country and city. The preparations for it involve all stakeholders (governments, regional authorities, institutions, NGOs, businesses, etc.). This 6th edition definitely stands out from all its predecessors by its pragmatic approach: looking beyond shared diagnoses of the situation, the time has now come for solutions!

The World Water Forum is a major event that has found a growing response with each new edition:

    • 25,000 participants expected from 180 countries,
    • 800 speakers,
    • 140 ministerial delegations,
    • more than 160 working groups involved in preparations.

SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT’s action at the Forum

A water professional open to dialogue, SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT actively contributed to the organised debates and made the most of its experience to present some 15 solutions.
See all the proposals in the pages below and download the Solutions Flyers in the page “Program of the SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT’s interventions”.

SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT’s proposals are based on 5 themes:

Dialogue

Water and wastewater treatment challenges are becoming more complex, both in France and worldwide. These demand in depth thinking, shared with all our stakeholders. SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT is convinced that partnerships are essential to build solutions for tomorrow.

Protection

Climate change, the demographic boom and urbanisation are intensifying the pressures on water ressources. Every day, an average of almost 200,000 persons come to a city somewhere in the world and the global population is predicted to reach 9 billion in 2050. All of these people must be provided with essential water and wastewater treatment services, while also protecting the environment at the same time.

Universality

Access to water and wasterwater treatment remains a major challenge which requires the mobilisation of all parties. In developing countries, since 1990, SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT has been working with the local authorities who have placed their trust in it to give 11.8 million people access to drinking water, and 5.7 million people access to wastewater treatment services. This is still too little, and SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT is committed to working alongside governments, local authorities, institutions and associations to promote universal access to water, through know-how transfer and by deploying solutions tailored to specific conditions.

Local communities

SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT is a company firmly anchored in the territory it operates in. Integrated into the economic and social fabric, we work in partnership with the local players. Our mission : to deliver essential services, work together with our customers in their commitments to environmental efficiency and thereby contribute to local development. This is how SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT is participating in green growth.

Transparency

Local authorities and industrial customers, consumers and citizens, are expressing their growing expectations for transparency. SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT is endeavouring to meet there aspirations through an innovative approach to information sharing and methods of governance. This approach favours continuous progression, each move forward calling for new demands.
