Incineration plant - Créteil

Créteil Incineration Energy (CIE) is a treatment and recovery centre, which handles 225,000 tonnes of waste per year.

Créteil Incineration Energy (CIE) – SITA REGION IDF – is a public service delegation exploiting the waste generated by 615,000 residents of the 19 member municipalities part of the Intercommunal Syndicate for Urban Mixed Waste Treatment in Val-de-Marne (ISMWTUVM). CIE is also a partner of industry, health institutions (APHP), pharmaceutical and Cyclamed. The tonnage is made up of:

    • 202,500 tonnes of household waste,
    • 22,500 tonnes of waste from healthcare activities with infectious risks.

This unit is equipped with two ovens with a capacity of 15t/h for an average calorific value (ACV) of 2,220 kcal / kg (9,210 kJ / kg) of waste processed. The primary air drawn into the pit, is injected under the gates and allows the burning of waste. The secondary air is introduced above the grate at the entrance of the first term (or part) of the boiler. This is where combustion ends. Two boilers recover the energy released by combustion of waste previously transformed into steam which is superheated to 360° C and 45 bars. This steam is oriented towards a turbo-alternator, which can occur in operation 115,000 MWh of electricity per year, corresponding to the power consumption of 150,000 inhabitants. To supply heat to the heating system, CIE has established exchange substation with a capacity of 18 MWt. These exchangers recover one third of sub-drawn steam issued from the turbine and produce 93,000 MWh / year which are delivered to the Palace boiler room via a network connection based on two pipes (in the N186 and A86). This new heat source supplies the urban heating system and allows to cater for one third of the city’s heating needs in the winter and 100% of domestic hot water needs in the summer. The service is provided continuously throughout the year including during the maintenance phases. In France, CIE is the leading treatment center for waste from healthcare activities with infectious risks regarding its treatment capacity of 42,000 tonnes allowed per year. These wastes are inserted into a dedicated line and are also co-incinerated in furnaces intended for treating household waste. In those, the tonnage is limited to 10% of the tonnage of waste processed.
