Performance indicators

The Group has defined indicators for each of its 12 commitments to accurately measure its environmental performance.

Reliable and audited data

SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT carries on various business activities which require an extremely wide range of technical processes (transport, chemical, thermal, biological, mechanical, etc.) operating at more than 3,000 facilities. This wide diversity makes the selection of sustainable development indicators, and the collection and calculation of quantified data highly complicated. SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT is therefore increasing its efforts in measuring and accurately reporting the continuous improvement in its performance. The environmental and social indicators that correspond to the various priorities set by the Group have been carefully defined to cover every field of activity as completely as possible. This is also a legal requirement under the French New Economic Regulations (NRE) law and follows (Global Reporting Initiative).

Ensuring accurate monitoring of sustainable development

To report its sustainable development performance as accurately as possible, SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT endeavours to provide all available information for tracking and comparing data. The indicators developed by the Group, therefore, evolve as technical knowledge improves, or as a result of research conducted by the company.

These indicators were extensively updated in 2010 to better reflect the Group’s three pillars of sustainable development:

The Group’s Ethics and Sustainable Development Committee regularly and closely monitors these key indicators. It also steers ongoing projects, such as:

In line with the above, SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT publishes an annual follow-up report on its commitments. The report reviews all the Group’s non-financial performance indicators, priority by priority.
