Green Cubes regroups several innovative solutions to optimize the energy potential of wastewater treatment stations. This offer uses the energy of the water, among other things, to increase environmental performance.
In managing its water- and waste-related activities, SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT offers optimised energy-consumption solutions. SITA Sweden, a Group subsidiary, has 17 new trucks that run on natural gas for collecting household waste in Malmö, the largest city in the country. This equipment significantly reduces atmospheric emissions and will, in the future, be able to run on biogas from landfill sites and sanitation plants in the region.
SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT also regularly receives awards for its initiatives and actions to reduce GHG emissions. SITA UK and Bristol Water have both been certified by the Carbon Trust Standard, a body that recognises organisations for actually-observed carbon reductions in their activities and their commitment to reductions in the future.
SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT deploys technologies that combine environmental protection and renewable-energy production. The Group has high-potential organic resources that can be methanised and converted to heat or electricity at wastewater treatment plants and landfills.
In 2010, SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT produced 634,000 million Nm3 of biogas at its landfill sites. 75% of the biogas was collected and treated (23% was simply burned, 52% was harnessed to power electricity-and thermal systems or directly used as fuel). The Group has also negotiated an agreement with AGL, the leading producer and supplier of natural gas in Australia, to supply power and provide carbon credits for the future desalination plant in Melbourne. This partnership aims to power the desalination facility over the next 30 years using renewable energy only
