SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT bases its safety policy on a universal principle: no one should be injured or killed as a result of carrying out their professional activity. This policy is reflected in the Group’s three-pronged strategy: adopt stringent rules, engage in major prevention measures, and continuously communicate about safety. SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT’s safety rules are constantly reviewed and adapted to reflect the feedback it receives. All workplace accidents are subjected to in-depth analysis, conducted at all levels, under the supervision and evaluation of the Group’s Serious Accident and Inquiries Commission. The company also operates an exemplary policy to ensure the continuous technological upgrading and conformity of all its facilities. Its subsidiary SITA France, for example, developed an action plan in 2011 aimed at improving the safety of workers servicing the most dangerous machinery.
The diversity of SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT’s activities and its geographically international presence have allowed it to accumulate major health and safety experience. The Group’s constant progress is recognised by a dynamic certification programme. For example, more and more of Degrémont’s activities are covered by OHSAS 18001 certification in Europe and internationally. For its part, Trashco Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, has obtained a QSE (Quality Safety Environment) certification for its integrated management system. And LYDEC in Morocco received the National Workplace Safety Award in 2010. This prize recognises the implementation of a management system that contributes to preserving the psychological and physical health of its employees, sub-contractors and third parties, while continuously improving the quality of the service rendered.
