From November 7 to 13, the SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT subsidiary Nuove Acque, held a sustainable development week dedicated to water.
Entitled “proteggiAMO L'ACQUA" meaning "Let’s protect water" and "I love water", the operation was an opportunity to educate people on sustainable development through initiatives dedicated to training, informing and raising awareness on water.
The week was part of “A come Acqua”, the 6th edition of Education for Sustainable Development Week organized under the auspices of the Italian National Commission for UNESCO.
Program
The key Nuove Acque initiatives are:
- "Tonight, I'm driving on water": Nuove Acque has joined the Road Safety authority to promote the use of tap water in nightclubs.
- "Protecting water resources and reducing losses": inauguration of the "Smart metering" system for the Arezzo hospital. Arezzo hospital will be the first major Italian organization to benefit from this system, which allows continuous monitoring of water usage.
- “Protecting the environment”: inauguration of the wastewater treatment plant using the Rhizopur® process in the protected site of Ponte Buriano on the banks of the Arno river.
- “Taking care of our resource": inauguration of the restructuring of the Orti-Palazzetti well field and drinking water treatment plant.
- "Teaching children to respect water": educational workshops for schools on Nuove Acque’s main drinking water treatment plants.
- “Open-house day” in Nuove Acque’s main plant, with educational workshops for children.
- "Water for everyone... without waste": water bar with games and activities in the area's main shopping center.
