Activated carbon

A highly porous form of carbon, obtained by heating organic substances at very high temperatures (bitumen, coal, wood, peat) and capable of adsorbing particles or microorganisms such as bacteria.

Adsorption

The adhesion of molecules or bodies to the surfaces of solids. Pollutants can be adsorbed to the surface of the particles.

Biogas (landfill gas)

Gas resulting from the fermentation of landfilled waste in the absence of air (methane/ carbon dioxide)

Biological recovery

Organic waste processing technique using composting or methanisation techniques

Biolysis®

Procedure to restrict sludge production by 30 to 80% at purification stations. Deployed at the biological basin, Biolysis® (translated into 2 products) causes a chemical or enzymatic «stress». Two actions that make part of the sludge biodegradable, and restrict the development of the others.
