Local authorities respond to drought

Local authorities respond to drought

Every year, several French regions face restrictions on water use. In 2005, considered to be a dry year, more than 60 departments were affected by such measures. Ensuring the quality of drinking water production and distribution services at summer’s peak has become a major challenge.

To discuss water restrictions and other long-term measures, on July 5, 2006, SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT participated in a conference entitled “ Local Authorities in the Face of Drought : How Can We Manage Restriction Measures and Carry Out Long-Term Action ?”

Consult the Conference report for the summaries of discussons and presentations by stakeholders on the following topics:

  • water shortage management plan, drought action plan : the stakes and the implementation
  • how can local authorities anticipate and implement effective restriction measures in the event of drought ?
  • reducing the vulnerability of the water supply in the long-term : what role should local authorities play ?
