UNESCO Center for Water Law, Policy and Science

As part of its partnership with UNESCO, SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT supports research projects at the UNESCO Centre for Water Law, Policy and Science.

A centre for research on water law and political sciences

As part of its partnership with the UNESCO Centre for Water Law, Policy and Science, SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT has supported 2 projects in particular:

  • A study of transparency, accountability and user participation in water and sanitation services in Europe (comparative analysis of Spain and Scotland).
  • A 3-year study, completed in early 2011, on users’ participation and their access to information and the legal system for decisions related to water and sanitation services. This study was conducted in 6 European countries to determine if, and to what extent, the regulatory framework in these areas guaranteed good service governance.

These studies supplement the Group’s partnership with Transparence International France on anti-corruption measures, as well as its membership of the Water Integrity Network which aims to combat corruption in water management.

SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT also teaches a 2-week seminar every year as part of a module titled “Governance of public and private water services provisions”. In this course, our experts use case studies to illustrate governance principles in public-private partnerships.

About the UNESCO Centre for Water Law, Policy and Science

The Unesco Center for Water Law Policy and Science is based at the Faculty of Law at the University of Dundee in Scotland. Under the auspices of UNESCO since 2006, it is a forum for scientific, legal, institutional and private-sector dialogue and thinking on water.
